Fix iMessage Activation Error :

Here’s how you can get rid of the “Waiting for Activation” error in iMessage in your iOS 9 and above device.

1. Get in Touch With Your Carrier

Ensure that your mobile carrier supports iMessage. Call your Carrier’s customer support to verify the same and ask about any limiting conditions that might apply on blocks, filters, or iMessage.

2. Try the Airplane Mode

Yes it sounds strange, but you should not hesitate to try it if all the other methods don’t work for you. It is simple and may work for many users

Here’s how to do it :

  1. Browse to Settings, and scroll to ‘Messages’ and tap it. Then turn ‘iMessage’ off. Do not forget to disable FaceTime also.
  2. Switch the Airplane mode ON. Wi-fi will automatically turn OFF. airplane mode
  3. Switch ON the Wi-fi
  4. Browse to Messages to switch ON iMessage.
  5. If you haven’t added an Apple ID yet, you will be prompted for the same.
  6. Now go to Settings again and switch OFF the Airplane mode.
  7. In most cases, you will receive a notification saying “Your carrier might charge you for this SMS”. Tap “OK”.
  8. If you don’t receive the notification, go back to Messages, switch off ‘iMessage’, then again switch it ON.
  9. After some time, iMessage will be activated.
  10. Your email ID and a grayed number can be seen. After some time, the number will get checked. That’s it!

This method worked for many people. If it doesn’t work for you, move on to the next step.

3. Sign-out Apple ID and Sign-in Again

  1. Go to Settings, then tap ‘Messages’. Scroll to the ‘Send & Receive’ option and open it.
  2. Tap the Apple ID, then select ‘Sign Out’.
  3. Now turn off iMessage
  4. Wait for some time (turn Wi-fi ON|OFF) and then turn ON iMessage again. wifi off iphone 6 ios 9

  1. I tried all of the above 3 times over the past couple of days and it did not fix the problem. This problem occurred after installing IOS 9.0.2. I am not sure if I should try to restore my phone to earlier backup and I would not know how to do that.

  2. It may charge always when i restart my iphone … And eat my credit always popup imessage notification can any one know how to fix it … My imessage is disabled

  3. I also tried for hundred times all mentioned methods…no success. My iMessage is still blocked. Besides -- there was instruction to sign out from Apple ID by pressing ‘send&receive’ option in Messages -- but there is no such option !? on my iPhone6

  4. Hi, just had this problem and resolved it. No guarantees but here’s what I did:
    Turn off iMessage (Settings/messages),
    turn off iPhone,
    remove sim.
    Put back together,
    turn back on.
Settings/General/Reset/Reset Network Settings (make sure you know your wifi settings first)/…go through the motions…
Once back up, reconnect to wifi, then settings/messages/imessage and turn back on.
    Got me back on.
