iOS 10.0.1 Download

Just a short while ago, Apple released their brand new iOS 10 firmware to the public. We have been patiently waiting for iOS 10 since it was first unveiled at WWDC 2016 and now it’s here, packed with all new features to complement existing iOS devices and the new iPhone 7 | iPhone 7 Plus, also now launched publicly. While many people rushed to update their iOS devices straight away, there are those who have hung back, either waiting for the rush to subside or waiting to see if there are any problems with it. The following instructions will help you to download the recent update, iOS 10.0.1 onto your devices in one of three separate methods.

Supported iOS 10.0.1 Devices :

As usual, every time a major new firmware is released, the older devices lose support. The following is a list of all the iOS devices that support iOS 10/10.0.1:

  • iPhone 5, 5C, 5S, 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, SE, 7, 7 Plus
  • iPad Pro
  • iPad Air, Air 2
  • iPad Mini, 2, 3
  • iPad 2, 3, 4
  • iPod Touch 6th Generation

Before Updating to iOS 10.0.1 :

Before you update your device to iOS 10 or 10.0.1, the following steps are recommended as a safeguard:

  • Make sure you are running the up to date version of iTunes, v12.5.1, as it was released to support iOS 10. In iTunes, tap on Help > Check for Updates and follow any on-screen instructions itunes update mac
  • Back up your iOS device data using iTunes and/or iCloud. If you don’t and something goes wrong during the update, you will lose all of your data. itunes backup ios 9
  • Disable your passcode and/or Touch ID – you can enable them again later
  • Disable Find my iPhone/iPad – open Settings > iCloud > Find my iPhone | iPad – again, you can enable it after the update find my iphone turn off

Download iOS 10.0.1 Firmware :

There are three ways to do this. Each method is explained in detailed steps below along with download links.

Method 1 – OTA or Over The Air :

This is the most common method and the easiest but, if you are intending to jailbreak in the future, do not use the OTA method; use iTunes instead

  1. Open Settings > General > Software Update on your iOS device ota ios 10
  2. Wait while the new update is detected
  3. On the popup message, tap on Download and Install 
  4. Leave your iOS device to update to the latest firmware

Method 2 – iTunes :

This is the first method to use if you intend to jailbreak

  1. Connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to your Mac or PC and launch iTunes
  2. Open the Device Summary for your connected device [ if you have more than one registered on your iTunes account ]  itunes-device-summary
  3. Click Check for Update on the right side of the screen
  4. On the popup message, click on Download and Update ios-10-0-1-download-itunes
  5. iTunes will now begin the process of updating your device to iOS 10.0.1
  6. When it has finished, your device will reboot to the Hello screen ios_9_hello_screen

Method 3 – iTunes with IPSW File :

This is the second method suitable for jailbreakers. It is also the recommended method for a major firmware as it ensures that you get a fresh start with no battery or performance issues

  1. Download the iOS 10.0.1 IPSW file that corresponds to your exact iOS device [ links below ]
  2. Connect your device to your Mac or PC and open iTunes
  3. Open Device Summary for your connected device
  4. Hold the ALT key on your Mac keyboard or the SHIFT key on your PC keyboard and click on Restore in iTunes at the same time itunes restore
  5. Navigate to the iOS 10.0.1 IPSW file you downloaded earlier and click on it ipsw-ios-10
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen and let iTunes update your iOS device
  7. When the update is finished, your device will reboot to the Hello screen

iOS 10 Jailbreak Update :

Luca Todesco has provided us with both videos and photo proof that the new firmware can be jailbroken. Yes , iOS 10.0.1 Jailbreak is possible and we have a detailed article about it here . While he won’t be releasing his jailbreak to the public any soon, it does mean that we know it can be done and it is only a matter of time before we get the public utility from Pangu and Taig jailbreak teams.
